Leo Justi’s “Heavy Baile” Mixtape

By 06 August, 2014

If you’re a regular reader to the site you’ll know that we’re big fans of Rio de Janeiro’s Leo Justi. The producer/DJ has yet to release an album, but boy does he keep putting out great tracks… and his latest mixtape is perhaps the finest collection of his trademark “Heavy Baile” sound to date.

Taking funk carioca (or baile funk) as the base, Justi has taken the sound onto the global bass dancefloors, adding elements of breakbeat, electro, hip-hop and dancehall to create a new heavier version of the sound, one full of big beats, imaginative production and unexpected twists, while still retaining the essence of Rio de Janeiro.

The Heavy Baile mixtape features Leo Justi originals and remixes, alongside collaborations with DJ Cabide, Beatacue and Bola de Fogo. This is a great introduction to the heavy baile sound, which now has its own night in Rio.
