New music: ‘Thank You, Thank You’ by M.A.K.U. Soundsystem

By 23 March, 2016

NYC’s purveyors of “immigrant beats” have a new song, and it’s one of gratitude.

Thank you, Thank you,” is the first single off M.A.K.U. Soundsystem‘s forthcoming album, Mezcla (which means mix), which will be out on Glitterbeat Records in late May. The very percussion-heavy track is a call and response track, with vocalist Liliana “Lana” Conde leading the charge. It’s world music in all it’s glory.

As for what to expect on the new record, the band stays true to their lived experiences:

“The immigrant experience is scary and it’s exciting. Everything is new, everything is possible. There’s a city, a country, an entire culture to discover. It’s an opportunity to create, to find a voice that speaks loud and proud, to connect past and future. A chance to make history.”

The album will seek to give listeners “America now, in the raw, through the eyes and ears of Colombians who’ve arrived and made their homes in New York City. It is, in every way, a mix, an invitation to think and to dance.”

Stream “Thank you, Thank you,” below, and look out for the new album via Glitterbeat Records.
