¡Viva Pacifico! on Sat 14th March at London’s Rich Mix, in solidarity with the people of Buenaventura

By 11 March, 2015

East London’s Rich Mix is the venue this Saturday 14th March for ¡Viva Pacifico!, a night in solidarity with the people of Buenaventura in Colombia. The Facebook event page promises a night of ‘Latin beats, spoken word, activism and música pacifica‘, which sounds pretty enticing to us.

¡Viva Pacifico! is organised by War On Want, Movimientos and Movimiento Jaguar Despierto – three of the most right on cultural and political organisations around – and will feature live music from Cumbé, one of London’s finest purveyors of Pacific coastal folklore sounds, as well as spoken word performances from Rafeef Ziadah, Pete the Temp, Raheela Suleman and Amaal Said, with tunes from DJs Cal Jader and Nab’S’Ora.

Prior to the main event, which kicks off at 7.30pm, there will be an under-25s spoken word workshop (email [email protected] to reserve a space).

All proceeds from the event will go to supporting social groups working in the Buenaventura region, which has suffered greatly from internal violence and displacement.

Tickets are priced £7 in advance and £10 on the door, and are available from the Rich Mix website.
