Dengue Dengue Dengue! Digital Cumbia from Peru

By 14 April, 2012

Peru’s Dengue Dengue Dengue take the music of the continent’s north and give it a modern twist, complete with a nod to gringo beats (Boards of Canada’s cumbia makeover here is stellar). DDD is a duo made up of Felipe Salmon (aka Zolcan Breaker) and Rafael Pereira (aka Makumba) and their shows are a tropical audiovisual experience, combining Colombian cumbia and Peruvian psychedelica and chicha, and borrowing elements of dub, techno, guaracha and dubstep. They’ve been making waves all over South America, and one would hope it’s only a matter of time before they bring their blend of digital tropicalism over to our side of the pond.
