Brand New Cumbia from Calexico!

By 04 February, 2015

Well I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised that Americana group Calexico have turned to cumbia. After all, their previous head honcho Howe Gelb already hit upon the style a few years ago when Giant Giant Sand recorded “Carinito” and fellow Tucson band Chicha Dust are positively embedded in the stuff.

However, what’s so great about this brand new cumbia from Calexico – which features additional vocals from Spanish singer Amparo Sanchez (previously of Amparanoia) – is that it is so righteously fun, a blistering, breakneck groove that is the liveliest track the band have recorded in some time.

“Cumbia de Donde” is taken from the new Calexico album Edge of the Sun, to be released on 13th/14th April 2015 and available for pre-order from Amazon UK, Amazon US and iTunes.
