Céu, Banda de Turistas and Choc Quib Town nominated for Latin Grammys

Quite a few of the artists we’ve been featuring on the site have recently been nominated for Latin Grammy awards. CéU has perhaps received the prestigious nomination of Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album, Banda de Turistas are up for both Best Alternative Music and Best Rock Song, Choc Quib Town are down for Best Alternative Song, Gilberto Gil has managed to squeeze in a couple of nominations, as has Alex Cuba and Andres Calamaro, and Maria Bethania is competing for the daddy of them all, the Record of the Year gong. Here are the nominations in full:

  • Banda de Turistas’Magical Radiophonic Heart’ for “Best Alternative Music
    Album” and “Lo Comandas” for “Best Rock Song”
  • Choc Quib Town’s “De Donde Vengo Yo” for “Best Alternative Song”
  • CéU‘s “Vagarosa” for “Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album”
  • Maria Bethania‘s “Tua” for “Record of the Year” and “Tua” (written by Adriana Calcanhotto) for “Best Brazilian Song”
  • Gilberto Gil‘s “Banda de Dois” for “Best MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira) Album” and “Fé Na Festa” for “Best Native Brazilian Roots Album”
  • Andres Calamaro‘s “On the Rock” for “Best Rock Album” and “Los Divinos” for “Best Rock Song”
  • Alex Cuba for “Best New Artist” and his self-titled debut for “Best Male Pop Vocal Album”
