Diogo Nogueira Returns to New York City

By 04 January, 2012

Diogo Nogueira is the freshest face in a long lineage of samba. The son of samba composer João Nogueira, Diogo grew up at the rodas, the music circles that characterize samba Carioca and a tradition Diogo carries on today in Brazil and internationally.

In the last few years, Diogo has experienced a rapid rise to fame on both stage and screen. His second album, Tô Fazendo a Minha Parte, was awarded a Latin Grammy in the category of Best Samba/Pagode.  And his weekly television program, Samba na Gamboa, where Diogo talks shop and performs with some of Brazil’s most talented bambas, just entered its third season.

Diogo debuted in New York six months ago at Lincoln Center’s outdoor concert series, Midsummer Night Swing. He serenaded an audience of stateside superfans and dancing enthusiasts happy to swing to a new samba sound. On Saturday, January 7, Diogo returns to the New York stage at SOBs in Soho.
