Gloria Estefan brings her Latin Beat to BBC Radio 2

Gloria “Queen of Latin Pop” Estefan is preparing to become a fixture in UK households thanks to an upcoming seven-part series on BBC Radio 2 looking at Latin music. The series starts on Thursday 3rd November and is titled Gloria Estefan’s Latin Beat.

Gloria Estefan has been extremely influential in establishing Latin music worldwide, and during this new series she will be looking at some of the other pivotal figures in Latin music history, with surely lots of great tunes along the way.

The first show will air on Thursday 3rd November at 11pm on BBC Radio 2, and will last an hour. The theme of the first program is Cuba, i.e. Estefan’s homeland. She will play songs by artists including Beny More, Perez Prado, Celia Cruz and Roberto Torres, and then move onto the beginning of the Miami music scene which erupted with her song “Conga” and accompanying album Primitive Love in 1985. Themes of other shows include Latin women, dance and the current Latin scene.
