Graveola Release EP and Announce London Show + Free MP3 Download
15 October, 2012Graveola are one of Brazil’s most enjoyable new bands, a fusion of pure pop melody and inventive songwriting. They are now getting their first international release on Mais Um Discos, who have just issued the Farewell EP and will be releasing Eu Preciso De Um Liquidificador in 2013. Add to that a European tour happening this October and the winter months may not seem quite so overcast. To start the ball rolling we’re more than happy to be offering a free download of “Desenha”, a track taken from the forementioned Farewell EP.
Hailing from Belo Horizonte (Brazil’s third biggest city), Graveola have been making music together since 2004, releasing two albums in Brazil. The group, whose full name is Graveola E O Lixo Polifonico, contains six members (at the last count) who combine with various instrumentatiom on a musical journey that takes on Brazilian pop, folk, jazz, samba, bolero and the blues, somehow melding these influences into a sound that already sounds quintessentially their own. Much of this has to do with the two lead singers, Luiz Gabriel Lopes and José Luis Braga. Their contrasting voices (one is a tenor, the other baritone) and deliveries (Lopes is often upbeat while Braga seems naturally reflective) lend themselves to this wide variety of influences and give the band real personality. When Juliana Perdigão adds her voice into the mix you might even want to start comparing the group to Os Novos Baianos and their trio of distinctive lead singers, which is high praise indeed.
Graveola will be playing in London on October 23rd, as part of a six-date European tour. Full details are below:
