Samba Legend Elza Soares is coming to London

By 30 September, 2011

Elza Soares is the epitome of the Brazilian samba singer, a carioca through and through who regularly performs at Rio Carnival and who has been successful since the early 60s. Just last month a documentary based on Elza’s life (Elza – read the review here) was featured at the Brazilian Film Festival of London and now we get to see Elza in the flesh, as she will be performing at Favela Chic on Saturday October 15th.

Adding to this will be the fact that Elza will be performing a selection of hits spanning her career and will be presenting them sound system style over instrumental versions of the songs, selected by her DJ Ricardo, in place of a full band.

There will be two sets, one at 9pm and one at 11pm, with djs playing afterwards till 2am

Tickets for the whole night are £8 in advance (limited amount on sale) and £10 at the door. This event will sell out so get your ticket quick! You can buy tickets here.

And here’s Elza at the very beginning of her career, singing “De Amor ou Paz” at the II Festival da Música Popular Brasileira, from TV Record, recorded in São Paulo on the night of 10/10/1966 in Teatro Record Consolação.
