Seu Jorge and Almaz “Tiny Desk Concert” for NPR

By 15 September, 2010

Seu Jorge and Almaz are the latest artists to take part in NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concert” series, following Ana Tijoux last month. It’s a chance to see the group in the relatively workmanlike surrounds of the NPR offices, watching the workers in the background carry on with their admin duties as Seu Jorge lets rip with the Almaz band behind him, in this case comprising electric guitars and bass, a drum and some percussion. They recorded five songs in total for the series, all of which you can either see or hear HERE.

We have been supporting the record ever since we spoke to Mario C back in May and he told us he’d been working on it. We were actually one of the first publications to pick up on the album and even got featured on the Seu Jorge and Almaz website. The album itself is a great Brazilian soul record with the most ingenious cover of Kraftwerk’s “The Model” we’ve ever heard. For some reason this particular track hasn’t been getting the credit it deserves in the reviews. For us it was a definite highlight. You can read our review HERE.

Here’s a video of Mario C recording Pupillo on drums for the album:
