Argentine Nuevo Tango Maverick Daniel Melingo Prepares For UK Tour
Revered Argentine singer/songwriter Daniel Melingo will be touring the UK from November 7th until the 20th, a tour taking in 10 dates across England and Wales. This is a great chance to see one of Argentina’s most interesting artists live, a man who has created his own twisted world of tango that has distinguished him as a truly unique performer.
Melingo earnt his reputation in the 1980s as a key member of the influential Argentine rock band Los Abuelos de la Nada and the riotous pop group Los Twist. An intriguing and unpredictable career, that has included working with Brazilian singer Milton Nascimento, the legendary Argentine Charly Garcia, and in the world of theatre in Buenos Aires, seemed to find it’s apogee when Melingo started to record as simply Melingo, his first solo project. Albums such as Santa Milonga, Maldito Tango and, the most recent, Corazón y Hueso have proven the perfect showcase for Melingo’s dark, quixotic, untamed mix of Tom Waits balladry and Roberto Goyeneche bombast, all the while oozing the sophistication of Bertolt Brecht. It’s a journey that has seen Melingo re-connect with tango, channeling all he has learnt through his career to create his own personal vision of the form. This is tango for those who like their coffee black, their whiskey straight and their music unrestrained.
Melingo will be playing the following dates:
7th Nov – Milton Keynes The Stables
8th Nov – York NCEM
9th No – Birmingham MAC
10th Nov – Cambridge The Junction
11th Nov – London Rich Mix
