Samba New York’s Next Samba Party
On April 26th, Samba New York! will be hosting its second “Samba Party,” the only regular event in NYC where the general public can dance to a live samba school Bateria (Drum Section).
As opposed to a show, the “Samba Party” is our Open Rehearsal for the community—a kind of NYC take on the mega samba school rehearsals that precede Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro.
Brazilian dance master Danielle Lima will provide a lesson before leading the crowd in a series of fun and exciting samba routines, set to the powerful rhythms of Samba New York’s live Bateria, under the leadership of Director, Philip Galinsky. DJ 2Melo sets the mood with his unique collection of Brazilian roots and contemporary dance tracks.
At this edition of the Party, Samba New York! will be holding its first ever “pagode,” a typical samba get-together featuring a circle of musicians playing informally around a table, accompanied by singing, dancing, socializing, and plenty of food and drink.
To participate as an instrumentalist in the Bateria or pagode portions of the evening, just enroll in our Bateria Rehearsal and Pagode Samba courses.
