“Estação Camélias” by Atletas: A Sounds and Colours video première

By 17 July, 2025

The song and video of ‘Estação Camélias’ by Atletas, namely Mario Cascardo from the Municipal K7 stable, is taken from the new album called Reflexão Meteórica and will be released on tape and vinyl on the 21st August, in a partnership between the labels Municipal K7 (São Paulo/Rio de Janeiro) and Transamericas (Santiago/London).

The video was made by filmmaker Natália Reis, who creates a psychedelic re-imagining of the Pedra Branca Massif and the mountains on the west side (Zona Oeste) of Rio de Janeiro. These images of the landscape of the massifs, rocks and pathways of Rio, where Mario has lived for most of his life, makes him part of a current trend of experimental musical artists whose music is inspired by the geography of where they live.

Atletas has spent the last few years as an office worker in Rio de Janeiro, as well as a kind of office-musician, equipped with no more than a guitar and a laptop on the desk in his room. Reflexão Meteórica (“Meteoric reflection”) is the name of an amateur radio transmission technique and a perfect symbol for what Mario describes as “the calm urgency of these songs”, whose atmospheres recall Sufjan Stevens, João Gilberto and the experimental ambient music of Biosphere. The result is a dreamlike and hospitable set of songs from the always interesting label, Municipal K7.
