Première: Alvaro Lancellotti’s new video, “Maneira de Ver”

By 19 July, 2024

Sounds and Colours presents an exclusive premiere of the new single “Maneira de Ver” by Alvaro Lancellotti, a Brazilian songwriter, singer, and music producer currently residing in Lisbon. This is the first single from his forthcoming album, Arruda, Alfazema e Guiné

The full album is set to be released in October on the American label Amor in Sound, led by Samantha Caldato and Mario Caldato Jr.,  multi Grammy-winning music producer known for his work with the Beastie Boys.

“Maneira de Ver” is a song in which Alvaro reflects on ways of existing and being in life. Alvaro continues a musical family tradition as he is the son of renowned musician Ivor Lancellotti and the brother of Domenico Lancellotti, who plays drums and agogo on the track and whose album Sramba is a Sounds & Colours’ fave.

“’Maneira de Ver’,” Alvaro comments, “evokes the timeless feel of Jorge Ben’s classic album Tábua de Esmeralda. We recorded the tracks with all the musicians playing together, so as to capture the warm, textured sound reminiscent of older albums. Pepê’s Rocinante Studio, nestled in the Mata Atlântica of Rio de Janeiro, inspired the sounds with its fantastic setting, allowing us to harness the energy of the moment and the beauty of the natural surroundings.”

While recording the album, Alvaro was also producing the show for the “Pra Gira Girar” project, which celebrates the work of Os Tincoãs, known for their fusion of African and Brazilian culture, drawing on Yoruba chants and samba rhythms with the call-and-response exchanges that are part of the Afro-Brazilian Candomble religion. This project deeply influenced the album, infusing it with Afro-Brazilian spirituality and reflecting Alvaro’s journey to becoming a yoga teacher.
