Zaina Woz releases video for single “Boneca de Porcelana” inspired by haute couture fashion and electroclash

By 11 December, 2024

Zaina Woz is the stage name of Natalia Hoegen, a singer, songwriter, music producer and creative director from Santa Catarina currently based in São Paulo. “Boneca de Porcelana” is the lead single from her debut album, and was produced in partnership with Arthur Kunz (Strobo, Os Amantes). The track examines feminism while in a toxic relationship: “The image of the porcelain doll, which is rigid and inanimate, allowed me to explain what I feel as a person in an emotional relationship, who often feels like an object in the other person’s hands,” says Zaina. The music video, inspired by this year’s Maison Margiela haute couture fashion show and referencing the movie Black Swan (2011), is directed by Marilia Curtolo.

The track is a slick, thrusting piece of electropop for those missing the heady days of Fischerspooner and Miss Kitten. Zaina Woz created the bass line and then producer Arthur Kunz laid down the electronic beat and the duo began to shape the song. Rodrigo Coelho (who has appeared on many key releases this year, Negro Leo’s “Rela” being one) adds elegant analogue arpeggios from his collection of modular synthesizers.
