Another Première: Nuevos Ríos

By 15 January, 2026

We’re pleased to announce both a single and a forthcoming album by a new inter-cultural musical collaboration: Nuevos Ríos. Originating on the banks of the Timbiquí River, the project emerged from the encounter between Canalón de Timbiquí—the group founded by maestra Nidia Góngora, whose fabulous, instantly recognisable voice illuminates her own solo work and collaborations with the likes of Quantic, Ondatrópica, and The Bongo Hop—and the Toulouse-based trio Reco Reco, passionate explorers of trance-inducing music, especially from South America. Keyboards player Bastien reveals that being together, living together and sharing daily life beyond music was essential in finding this common sound, deeply nourished by camaraderie.

Deriving from initial jam sessions in Nidia Góngora’s home, their self-titled debut album on the esteemed ZZK label will be released on vinyl and digital formats on March 27th. Meanwhile, you can gauge its tempo and temperature via the single, “Malvada”, a tribute to the Latin American deity and a re-working of the Canalón de Timbiquí original, which premiers today. It’s a mesmerising electro-traditional mash-up that’s guaranteed to put a smile on the face and a spring in the step of marimba-lovers the world over.
