Celebrating Día de los Muertos in London

By 10 October, 2024

It’ll be upon us before we know it – and then it’ll be gone in a trice. So if you’re anywhere near London on the second day of the traditional Day of the Dead festivities, Saturday 2nd November, hurry on down to Hackney Bridge before all those dancing papier maché skeletons are packed away in their trunks and coffins once more.

Why? Because Movimientos will be curating a fiesta in Block C of Hackney Bridge. They’ll be festooning an altar in honour of the spirits and presenting Romperayo, who’ll be flying in from Colombia to serve up their exhilarating brand of cumbia to get the feet moving and the hips swaying. Support will be in the form of two expatriate Mexican DJs, Ritmos Cholulteka and Sabor A Mi, and Movimientos’ very own Cal Jader. Festivities are from 8(pm) till late and apparently one can expect “amazing decorations for a fully immersive experience.” Apparently, too, tickets are going fast. You can get yours here.

To quote Dickens’ immortal Smallweed, “Shake me up, Judy!”
