Review Various Artists – Club Coco
Coco Maria, DJ and radio show host at Worldwide FM, meticulously puts Latin sounds out there in this compilation. Best listened to when in the open-air; there is a high risk of wanting to dance, dance, dance.
On Club Coco we find the reflective, unique and beautiful piquant rhythms of La Perla, a bullerengue combo from Bogotá, with their song “Guayabo”. Romperayo are also unearthed amidst the cloud of flavours that this musical cocktail brings with the song “El Ritmo de Chico”, as well as another Colombian giant, Frente Cumbiero.
If we’re talking cocktails, then this is no Bloody Mary, we’re talking a cocktail with a lot of citrus. Evident in the acid tones of opening track “A Big Brain” by Nico Mauskovic (Mauskovic Dance Band) and the Meridian Brothers’ “Bomba Atómica”, giving this release refreshing bite, just in time for summer.
Les Pythons de la Fournaise delights us with a touch of Réunion Islands’ sega on “Toux Doux”, and of course, mademoiselle Coco María herself gives us “Me Veo Volar”, showing that she’s more than just a DJ and curator, though few can doubt her exquisite taste as a music selector after listening to this. Coco makes our auditory senses bloom with this Afro-Latin inspired collection, a refreshing musical cocktail stirred up with a healthy dose of cumbia and much spice; a must have compilation for the summer.
Club Coco is released by Les Disques Bongo Joe
