Paco de Lucía Legacy is a scholarship for music students
17 February, 2025The Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation has announced the launch of the Paco de Lucía Legacy Scholarship, the first in a series of scholarships launched in collaboration with the Paco de Lucía Foundation. This scholarship allows students to attend the music institution of their choice. The $120,000 amount is well worth the need; it’s not just tuition. No wonder many people compare this scholarship to winning the lottery jackpot.
The foundation said the scholarship furthers its mission to support and develop the next generation of music creators. It was created specifically to promote Latin American music.
Raquel “Rocky” Egusquiza is the executive director of the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation. The foundation is honored to honor one of the most influential guitarists in the history of flamenco and music in general, specifically by supporting young musicians.
Sánchez Varela, president of the Paco de Lucía Foundation, said how important it is to support young musicians from prestigious international platforms such as the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation and on behalf of great musicians such as Paco de Lucía.
This scholarship will be available to music students between 17 and 25. There are a few essential terms: enrollment in the university of their choice, passion for flamenco, and financial hardship the student faced in paying tuition fees. However, even fulfilling these conditions does not guarantee a scholarship because luck also plays a significant role. One can even draw a parallel with the currently popular Plinko game, where the randomness factor is essential: it is not always possible to predict which applicant will receive the scholarship. However, unlike the Plinko casino game, much of this also depends on the persistence and talent of the student. If you are diligent, it is possible to get a scholarship. Then, the opportunity to continue your undergraduate studies at the university of your choice and start studying music in the fall of 2025 will open up.
The Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation will accept applications for all 2025 scholarships until 11:59 p.m. on April 10, 2025. The application must be accompanied by two audition videos and a letter from the university. The student must also submit two essays and two letters of recommendation. Materials can be submitted in English, Spanish, or Portuguese.
Last year, a “Latin Grammy Celebra: Paco de Lucía” event was held in memory of the Andalusian maestro. It included his family and musician friends who performed his songs. The event was essentially a little guide to the famous musician’s life. The Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation project, dedicated to developing Latin American music, was also exclusively presented during the ceremony. Four Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation scholarship recipients attended the event.
