The impact of technology on Latino culture: from music to digital entertainment
31 March, 2025Latin America is experiencing a technological and digital revolution that is undoubtedly reflected in all areas of society. It affects everything, especially the way we consume music, movies, books, creative products, and even entertainment. The new digital technologies are, in turn, boosting the cultural development of Latin American countries.
Music
Many people already associate Latin American music with heightened rhythms and emotions, but the development of digital technology has made it possible to take it to a whole new level. For example, services such as Spotify and YouTube Music have allowed regional artists to gain worldwide fame. Bad Bunny, J Balvin, and even Karol G are among them.
Speaking of new digital technologies, social networks must not be forgotten. Thus, TikTok directly impacted the development of music in Latin America. Thanks to this social network, songs such as “Despacito” and “Tusa” became maximally viral and received coverage of several million views.
Virtual concerts are another innovation that has emerged with the development of digital technologies. They are often organized through services such as Instagram Live. For example, a group of students in Brazil recently organized virtual concerts and performances, attracting millions of viewers around the world.
Movies and TV series
Latin American series such as “Casa de Papel,” “Narcos,” and “Elite” have become world-famous thanks to Netflix and Amazon Prime. It is thanks to such platforms that the 2023 film “Bardo” by Alejandro González Iñárritu won a large number of awards. Other examples include the Brazilian animation studio Hype Animation, which attracted millions of dollars in investment thanks to digital technology.
Technology also influences the movie production process. Thanks to CGI, many movies and cartoons get many special effects. VR technologies allow users to dive deeper into what is happening on the screen.
Gaming industry
Latin America is one of the leading countries in gaming industry growth. In Brazil and Mexico, gaming markets are growing faster than in Europe. Major publishers such as Riot Games and Ubisoft are opening regional offices. Mobile and browser-based games with fast action elements, such as JetX online, are popular among young people, attracting players with dynamic gameplay and instant winnings. Independent game developers are emerging in Argentina and Colombia, and the number of cybersports tournaments is growing yearly.
The future of technology and culture in Latin America
Experts believe that technology will continue to impact Latin American culture directly. For example, AI is already used here to create songs and remixes, while virtual reality technologies are used to create movies and films. In parallel, NFT platforms are emerging where fans can support their favorite artists.
