DANZ ON 21: Lagartijeando

By 23 July, 2021

Matías Zundel, known as Lagartijeando, is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and DJ born and bred in Dolores – a town near Buenos Aires. Under his nom de plume, Lagartijeando mixes various styles of native and international musics, dialoguing with Latin American folk musics such as cumbia, huayno, carnivalito and batucada, and blending them with dub, electronica and trip hop. With three albums under his belt for Wonderwheel, Zizek and Waxploitation Records, and his latest single “Sideral Cumbia” released this week, it’s a pleasure to have the Argentinian sit in for a Danz On Mixtape.

“Esta mezcla contiene los ultimos tracks que me estan insipirando, mucha cumbia con tradiciones antiguas en la que se mezcla sonidos espaciales del dub, musica del oeste de africa en formato de baile y tambien incluye mi ultimo lanzamiento Sideral Cumbia.

“This mix features the most recent tracks that have inspired me: a lot of cumbia, with its ancient traditions, with which I’ve mixed the special sounds of dub, West African dance music and, also, my latest release ‘Sideral Cumbia’.”

This mixtape series takes its name from ‘Danzon (Dance On)’ – an album by celebrated Cuban trumpeter, Arturo Sandoval. The album’s title plays on the name of Cuba’s national dance: the danzón, introducing its English homonym and punning on the fact that native Latin American music types are loved on dance floors worldwide. For this mix series, expert dance floor-fillers from Latin America and beyond will be serving Latinx killers so that we can dance on worldwide.
