This is the second volume in an extraordinary series cataloguing adventurous, psychedelic and experimental music from Brazil. Following on from Volume 1 which covered the late 60s and early 70s, this second instalment takes a look at Brazilian music as it moves away from psych and garage rock into even more ambitious material. There are experiments in north-eastern Brazilian music, the mixing of the avant-garde and comic books from Arrigo Barnabé, Tom Zé’s finest albums, plenty of free jazz and samba jazz, pioneering musicians working with folk music, and so much more.
The book contains articles on all 100 albums with full page album covers and texts in both English and Portuguese. It’s truly a glorious thing.
