The first mix of this year’s series sees a return to focus upon the vibrant digital cumbia scene in South America [following last year’s Digital Cumbia mix]. There have been some incredible releases recently, notably on labels such as Le Ronca and the three-way venture of Miami/Peruvian/Venezuelan outfit El Flying Monkey Records, who have bass starlet Tropikore on their books. This mixtape is sure fire to kick-start your weekend, showcasing the bass-heavy output that has started to build, incorporating elements of Moombahton and Zouk Bass; a direction spearheaded by Tropkillaz who, of course, feature. With music from Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico and Argentina, this showcase demonstrates the breadth of support for this music, and also the nuances between the countries’ respective outputs.
