New track “Lejos de Más” from pablopablo feat. Helado Negro

By 07 October, 2024

S&C favourite Helado Negro features on new track “Lejos de Más” with London-based Spanish indie artist pablopablo.

The nostalgic new song, with recognisable Helado Negro flavour – soft tones, layered but simple harmonies, reflective looping lyrics – explores the pain that distance can cause in a relationship.

The lyric “Quedé afuera de tu corazón” [I was left outside of your heart] repeats like a spiralling melancholy thought, yet the music offers a deep breath and a sense of hope. The soft keys and clear, melodic guitar plucking are heartfelt and relaxing and the 80s synth line adds some groove, creating an overall feel of acceptance.

Roberto Carlos Lange (Helado Negro) and Pablo Drexler (pablopablo) met last year and immediately connected after playing on the same lineup at the Pitchfork Paris Festival.

Their decision to work on music together couldn’t have been more apt. Lange says of the collaboration: “These are the moments you hope to have when collaborating with someone. The music comes to life, takes you, and transforms you.”

Helado Negro is currently touring his 2024 album PHASOR, released on 4AD in February. These tracks are full of twinkling percussion, space-age synths and the lightness Helado Negro manages to weave into sometimes heavy themes.

The single follows the recent news that Pablo, who studied Composition and Electronic Music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, is nominated for two Latin GRAMMYs 2024 with his writing and production collaborations on Nathy Peluso‘s “Aprender a Amar” and Trueno’s “La Nota.” Pablo is set to open for The Marías at sold out shows across the UK and Europe next month.

Pablo shares, What’s incredible is that, no matter how much you love someone’s work, there’s no guarantee that when you get together one afternoon to make music, something worthwhile will come out of it. However, in this case, we were very lucky; I felt that every idea we had was enhanced in the hands of the other. I wish it were always like this!”
