Incredible Places to Take the Best Selfies in Peru

By 11 November, 2020

Peru is an incredible country where natural wonders are aplenty, and the ancient Inca people once roamed. The scenic surroundings, beautiful South American weather, and incredible culture have made this place a favored travel destination for those seeking adventure.

The amazing surroundings make for fantastic selfie opportunities. Here are some of the most incredible places to take the best selfies in Peru.

Huacachina

If you grew up watching cartoons depicting stunning tropical oases in the middle of a scorching desert, you’d love Huacachina. This desert oasis is surrounded by towering sand dunes where you can go sand surfing and dune buggy riding under the endless blue sky.

Take a selfie from one of the towering dunes to capture the tropical oasis below. Alternatively, walk along the edge of the dunes and capture the desert in the background.

Paracas

This little seaside town boasts stunning beaches, sunny patios, and the incredible Ballestas Islands, which is often compared to the Galapagos Islands. Hop on a boat and head out to see the sea lions and penguins by the thousands playing on the rocky isles.

Grab a selfie from the cliffs overlooking the beautiful red sand beach or work your angles to capture the penguins in the background while exploring the islands. Check this article to get some fantastic inspiration for your poses.

Machu Picchu

One of the Seven Wonders of the World, you can’t go to Peru without seeing Machu Picchu. This city in the sky is breathtaking, with ancient ruins, lush green terraces, and friendly llamas who can’t wait to say hello.

While Machu Picchu is a popular selfie spot, it’s critical that you practice caution when lining up your perfect shot. There are no railings along many of the narrow paths, and it’s a long 11,000-foot drop to the Earth below, as a few unfortunate photo takers have discovered.

Nazca

Nazca is a quaint little desert town with little more than a gas station and a few residential locations. What makes this part of the world so spectacular is the mysterious Nazca lines. Dating back thousands of years, these glyphs in the sand showcase depictions of a monkey, hands, a spider, and more. The best way to see these lines is from a chartered airplane, but there’s also a tower where you can view a couple from above.

Get a selfie from the tower and share the mystery of the Nazca Lines with your followers.

Lake Titicaca

The highest navigable lake in the world, Lake Titicaca, spans over 2000 feet between Peru and neighboring Bolivia. The clear blue water in the Andes mountain range makes for a stunning selfie backdrop and a fantastic place to rest and acclimatize to the altitude.

Colca Canyon

Colca Canyon is one of the best hiking destinations in South America. This river gorge boasts stunning vistas and a unique ecosystem that nature-lovers will relish.

Get a selfie from the look-off above the Incan terraces, on the descent to the Sangalle Oasis, and overlooking the fields at the Salinas y Aguadas Blanca National Reserve.

The Gocta Falls

The Gocta Falls are a hidden gem in Northern Peru, at a startling height of 2500 feet. You can get a selfie in front of these falls from miles away to get the full drop and cloud system amidst the rainforest. The hike to the falls is fairly accessible, with many nearby accommodations showing views of the falls in the distance. If you travel to the Amazon region, you won’t want to miss this ethereal backdrop.

Peru is filled with mysterious, otherworldly landscapes and hidden delights. Venture off the beaten path and take in the best this incredible country has to offer.
