Leveling Up: Chile’s Thrilling Path to Becoming South America’s iGaming and eSports Hub

By 12 March, 2026

The power can be felt in Chile. Through the busy avenues of Santiago to the emerging areas such as Villarrica, there is a digital revolution. It is fuelled by high-speed internet, a youthful, tech-driven society, and an insatiable spirit for competition. Although the nation is regarded as a land of amazing scenery and a thriving economy, a new, different face is also now coming to light. The country is rapidly leveling up, positioning itself to become South America’s next great hub for iGaming and electronic sports (eSports).

This is a complete cultural and economic shift. It is the account of how a country is using the power of play to establish a serious industry. The digital playing field is super active, with more than 94% of the population having access to the internet. We are seeing the emergence of a new type of competitor on the Latin American scene, and this future is nothing short of exciting.

The Perfect Storm: Connectivity, Passion, and Investment

Why is Chile such fertile soil for this digital blossoming? It is a mix of circumstances that has formed a perfect storm of opportunity. To begin with, think about the figures. They have a highly urbanized, digitally literate population that is spending an average of almost nine hours a day online. This is not a passive group; these are gamers, streamers, and above all, fans. Video games are used by millions of Chileans regularly. This has created a massive, ready-made audience for eSports competitions at hubs like Hellspin.

This passionate community is the engine. Yet, the fuel is coming from significant investment and strategic partnerships. We’re seeing major moves, like the recent alliance between 1190 Sports and Liga ACE. This is the leading eSports organization in Latin America. The partnership aims to commercialize top-tier tournaments. This includes publicity for popular games like Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, and League of Legends across the region.

The Rise of Professional eSports

This is a monumental step. It signals that the scene is moving from grassroots tournaments to pro-managed leagues with real marketing power. According to Juan Carlos Chamy of 1190 Sports, this is about tapping into “new digital audiences, attractive and growing, in the face of the increasing demand from brands”. The excitement is building, and global brands are starting to take notice of Chile’s enthusiastic market.

The growth estimates are phenomenal and affirm this trend. In 2024, the eSports market was estimated to be over $11 million. In the future, it is estimated that it will almost quadruple to about $48 million in 2033. That is a strong sign of an industry that is about to become huge. Chile is forecasted to be the fastest-growing market in all of Latin America.

Building the Foundation: Public Spaces and Academic Excellence

For a hub to be sustainable, it needs more than just fans and investors. It also needs infrastructure and talent. Chile is actively building this foundation from the ground up. How? By blending public initiative with academic rigor. The opening of InGaming Provi in August 2024 was a landmark moment. Located in Providencia, this is the first public video game lab. It is a collaborative space equipped with high-end gaming PCs, coworking areas, and high-speed Wi-Fi.

This is a space where dreams can be built. It’s designed to be a melting pot where indie developers can brainstorm with content creators. It is also where aspiring pro-gamers can train on top-tier equipment. It’s a testament to the idea that gaming is a legitimate cultural and economic force worth investing in.

Nurturing the Next Generation of Leaders

Chile is also getting smart about the business of play. Top universities are now offering specialized programs to professionalize the industry. For instance, the Universidad de los Andes offers postgraduate courses for this. They are focused on “videojuegos, esports y gaming marketing”. These programs are made for future marketers, lawyers, and managers who will lead the industry.
