PREMIÈRE: Chancha Via Circuito and Shaman Herrera Pay Tribute to Leda Valladares on First Track from Upcoming Compilation

By 13 November, 2018

As was the case with digital cumbia, electronic music producers from Argentina were quick to make a connection with their folkloric roots, exploring national genres like copla, chamamé and chacarera. The exploration of cultural heritage is something that they can share with the late great Leda Valladares, who transitioned herself from jazz to folklore when she released an album series entitled Mapa Musical Argentino (Argentinean Music Map) from the 1940s through to the 1960s.

To tribute this wonderful woman, Tremor, El Remolón, Bárbara Silva, King Coya, Sofía Viola, San Ignacio, Lauphan, Pol Nada, Jin Yerei, Dat García, Jazmín Ezquivel, Barda, Celeste, Uji and Charo Bogarín, all joined forces to release El Camino De Leda, A collaborative project between the Barcelona-based Folcore and Buenos Aires label Fértil Discos, which features remixes and covers of songs recorded by Valladares.

A first taste of this album, that will see the light on digital and vinyl at the beginning of 2019, can be heard below. Produced by Chancha Via Circuito and featuring vocals from Shaman Herrera, this is “Yo He Sido”:
