PREMIÈRE: Kaleema’s “Circulo De Arena” is a Balm for Body and Soul

By 26 February, 2021

Precursor to hypnotic sophomore full-length Útera (12th March, Wonderwheel Recordings), BA multi-instrumentalist Kaleema (aka Heidi Lewandowski) bewitches on her balmy single, “Circulo De Arena”. Floating atop layers of liquid synths and trickling pads, the Argentinian upstart, who rose to prominence following her critically acclaimed 2017 debut Nomada, croons here in her delightfully delicate yet commanding alto.

Instrumentally sparse, save for a pulsing mid-range synth, Kaleema’s vocal layers swell to the fore – fitting for a piece deemed “an invitation into a moment of serene introspection”. An intimate yet wholly compelling cut, “Circulo De Arena” shows ample promise for Kaleema’s upcoming album.

“This is a song that I composed during a long and intense process of physical and spiritual healing that I went through, which meant a rebirth, a new beginning for me. The album reflects that journey through which I went, with its difficulties and learnings that transformed me as a person, and especially as a woman. I deeply understood that vulnerability is not a weakness, but a force, a motor for life and fire to the soul.”
