CON ALMA 10: Zenderista

By 02 November, 2020

The Chilean musician, producer and DJ Francisco Baquedano is a passionate traveller who roams musical landscapes under the moniker Zenderista. His name, which plays on “senderista” (“hiker”), betrays Baquedano’s penchant for sonic rambling. Blending urban electronics with folkloric and festival music from the American continent, Zenderista’s pursuit is for a sound that’s as all-encompassing as it is distinctive. The tireless producer, who is a member of South America’s New Latam Beats label, has just launched La Caravana Records – a label dedicated to contemporary Latin American sounds. We’re very pleased to host Zenderista for this morning’s Con Alma Mixtape which exclusively premières his latest tune, named after his new label.

“I am happy for this opportunity to make a different set, completely inspired by times of pandemic, in which I believe that we have all had difficult moments of darkness and uncertainty. In this set I want to represent a journey from that darkness to coming out into the light, coming to the surface, using music as a torch that lights the way through different dimensions.

“Ideal to be listened to or danced to in the morning, to start your day with energy. In the set you will find music by producers and artists from different latitudes of Latin America, from Puerto Rico, down the Andes mountain range to Chile and Argentina. The music that is being made in South America is incredible and the set tries to reflect that as well, including several songs released this year. I also take the opportunity to include my next single “Caravana” that will be out very soon. If you listen to the set until the end you will find it. Disfruten el viaje!”

The Con Alma series is a mug of hot coffee served on Monday mornings, to start your week off right. An hour of musical soul food that’s good for the body. Although the series’ name is taken from Dizzy Gillespie’s Latin standard, don’t expect an hour of frenetic bebop – this is gentle introspection, warm sunrises, shower sing-a-longs… and always with plenty of soul.
