Las Añez release new track “Libéralo” for International Women’s Day
07 March, 2025For International Women’s Day, Colombian duo Las Añez release a gutsy new track about following your desires and trusting your awakening.
“Cansada de hacer lo que toca
En vez de hacer lo que le provoca
Viviendo en una burbuja que es frágil pero que flota.”
“Tired of doing what you have to
Instead of doing what you want most
Living in a bubble that’s fragile, but floats.”
It might be uncomfortable to recognise your own situation in these lyrics, but the uplifting percussion and persuasive chorus might just carry you towards making that decision you’ve been chewing over. There’s understanding that there are reasons we don’t always follow our hearts: “corazón que falla también tiene sus razones”, but in the end, the message is that letting go of what is not important to us allows us to soar like butterflies.
If you’re still on the fence about your rebirth, enter La Muchacha, Colombian singer/songwriter winning hearts around the county and in Latin America for her social and environmental protest anthems. “Libéralo” takes on a more political message in La Muchacha’s rapped verse teasing “se va caer, se va caer” (an anti-establishment chant often heard at International Women’s Day -8M- demonstrations demanding an end to patriarchy and sometimes used in modifications of the trailblazing Chilean performance ‘A Rapist in Your Path’).
But the real flames are ignited when La Muchacha joins Las Añez in the final chorus, her voice projecting like a warrior’s cry. With bullerengue-influenced vocals and hand percussion, their three voices close the track with a swirling image of a liberated butterfly rising.
This is the duo’s second International Women’s Day release, after De Curvo Cuerpo (March 2022), which remains a staple pop-reggaeton hit in Colombia, advocating for women being who they want to be, not who they are expected to be.
The video for the new track features a behind-the-scenes look at recording “Libéralo” as well as a live performance of the track in Bogota’s Media Torta at the end of last year.
