DANZ ON 04: Dementira (Discos Pegaos)
16 October, 2020Dementira is the founder and director of Discos Pegaos, a Chilean label that has been championing South American electronic music for 9 years. His own productions – the latest of which is the rolling, introspective “Mercancía” – explore indigenous and urban idioms, channelling recognisable Latin timbres within brazen contemporary electronics. We’re thrilled to have him sit in for an hour of dazzling urban Latin dance.
Dementia tells us about his mix:
“I made this mix inspired by the new talents that are here in Chile, and recently with the label we published in our compilation Pegamentos Vol 5, such as DLC, Syntrovert and Maga, artists with new paths for Latin club electronics. It is a mix with many Chilean and Latin tracks and with several special edits for the occasion, as always in my mixes I try to show different styles and different moods.”

This mixtape series takes its name from ‘Danzon (Dance On)’ – an album by celebrated Cuban trumpeter, Arturo Sandoval. The album’s title plays on the name of Cuba’s national dance: the danzón, introducing its English homonym and punning on the fact that native Latin American music types are loved on dance floors worldwide. For this mix series, expert dance floor-fillers from Latin America and beyond will be serving Latinx killers so that we can dance on worldwide.
