Ana Tijoux releases new single ‘Vengo’ from upcoming album

By 23 January, 2014

It’s been a very exciting day in the Sounds and Colours offices with the release of Chilean rapper Anita Tijoux’s brand new single ‘Vengo’, taken from her new album of the same name which is due to be released on 18th March on Nacional Records. And we’re pleased to say it’s absolutely sensational.

The crisp, beautifully-dropping, piped-in melody gives some idea of ‘Vengo’s Andean roots, but it’s Ana’s reverential rhymes which really give the tune its heart as a fearsomely proud affirmation of awe and respect for the land of her ancestors.

Having supported the 2011 student protests in Chile in ‘Shock‘ and opposed the TPP economic partnership, in ‘No al TPP‘, through her music, Ana’s social credentials are not in doubt, and her latest heaves with Latin American identity. It is clear that international mainstream success (her smash tune ‘1977‘ was featured in Breaking Bad and she’s played with The Roots at the Latin Grammys) hasn’t blunted her creativity or her principles.

‘Vengo, en busca de respuestas, con el manojo lleno y las venas abiertas,

Vengo, como un libro abierto, ansiosa de aprender la historia no contada de nuestros ancestros,

Con el viento que dejaron los abuelos, si que viven cada pensamiento,

Esta madre tierra, tierra, quien sabe cuidarla es quien de verdad la quiera‘.

Immense stuff, Ana.
