Wanderley Alves dos Reis, known to all of his fans as Wando, died early this morning of cardiac arrest in a hospital outside Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Since January 27, Wando had been undergoing medical treatment for blocked arteries.

Wando began singing romantic pop music in 1969 and recorded over 20 albums in his 43 year career. In addition to his music, Wando will be remembered for his fetish for female underwear, which adoring fans would throw to him during performances.

“Fogo e Paixão” off his 1998 album, O Mundo Romântico de Wando, is one of his most loved songs. In this video, Wando is singing with Marcelo Mello.
