Nanná Millano’s “Wild Fire”
21 May, 2025Reading on the BBC’s homepage that more tropical forest than ever before was destroyed last year reminded me that I neglected to include this song by a young Brazilian singer based in Paris in my round-up of new singles this month. Having witnessed wildfires at first hand in the Amazon and Los Angeles, her lyrics to the song are chillingly apposite. We have indeed “been told”, so many times in fact that it makes you think that humanity has a death wish. The video incidentally supports IPAM (Amazon Environmental Research Institute), spotlighting how artists can create emotionally resonant work and take real action. “When we see the forest burn,” she reminds us, “we often don’t realize it’s also the home of many humans and living beings.” More power to the project and this new artist.
