What’s happening in November (in and around the UK and Ireland)?
02 November, 2026Two concerts this month featuring artists from Brazil should be high on anyone’s list. Rather than book yourself into a Guy Fawkes’ Night party, get some tickets to see that excellent trio, the inheritors of Azymuth’s mantle, Caixa Cubo for their show at Ronnie Scott’s at 8.30pm on the 5th November. It’s the last leg of their recent European tour, so do not tarry!
The wonderful Joyce Moreno is visiting our shores with her band to promote her new album on Far Out, Never Too Soon. She’ll be appearing at Dublin‘s Ambassador Theatre on 13th November at 7pm; at London‘s EartH Hackney on Sunday, 15th November at 7.30pm; at Manchester‘s Band on the Wall on Monday, 16th November at 7.30pm; and at Edinburgh‘s Voodoo Rooms on Tuesday, 17th November at 7.30pm. Check the links for more information and tickets.
Around the same time, Los Pirañas will be in England for two dates. The experimental Colombian Avant-Latin “super-trio” that includes Eblis Alvarez of Meridian Brothers fame will be playing The Jam Jar in Bristol on Friday, 13th November, followed by a gig the next day at the Jazz Cafe in London.
Although I’m too late to remind you about Movimientos’ Cumbia de los Muertos event on the 31st October, there are another couple of their events in London this month to tell you about:
Hand-painted by the most celebrated Colombian picó artist, William Gutiérrez Peñaloza, “El Mágico Baobab” will stand in all its 11.5 ft high and 8 ft wide glory at Hackney Bridge for a once in a lifetime party when Zaperoco presents El Mágico Baobab on Saturday, 14th November, a great opportunity for you lucky Londoners to dabble in picó soundsystem culture, partying “like it’s nineteen ninety-nine” as they do in the Caribbean coastal cities like Barranquilla, Cartagena and Santa Marta. Picós are so much more than sound systems: they are a visual and musical part of everyday life and collective power in Colombia. Get yer loverly tickets while they last!
For a taste of Colombian cumbia, psychedelic cumbia and rebajada, tropical rhythms, Acid and Jungle sounds, get down to the Jago for Candela Wax with special guests La Mandarina on Saturday, 21st November from 10pm and on into the wee small hours. Tickets here.
