Pra Girar Girar – Uma Celebração a Os Tincoãs: A Sounds & Colours Premiere
29 October, 2026Pra Gira Girar is a project conceived by Álvaro Lancellotti and Julianna Sá that celebrates the work of Bahian trio Os Tincoãs. In the 1960s and 1970s the trio, led by Mateus Aleluia and Dadinho, from Cachoeira, Bahia, created an Afro-Baroque sound by combining chants from the Candomblé and Umbanda religions with intricate vocal arrangements using beautifully close harmonies.
The album features 12 tracks from their repertoire, specifically exploring the themes of water, faith, protection, ancestry and healing, all recurring in the Afro-diasporic traditions evoked by Os Tincoãs. The project was initially conceived as a live tribute to bring the group’s work to contemporary audiences. The initial shows, which played in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, prompted producer Mario Caldato Jr. and artistic director Samantha Caldato, who run the independent label Amor In Sound, to propose a recording session. Alongside Álvaro Lancellotti (vocals), the project’s core line-up includes Alan de Deus (vocals), Michele Leal (vocals) and Pedro Costa (guitar). The album also features Kassin (bass and co-production), Anna Magalhães (percussion), Diogo Gomes (trumpet) and Zé Manoel (piano and vocals). Zero Awá (in memoriam) also contributed percussion.
This recording is linked to a broader process of reconnecting with ancestral roots, which has gained momentum in Brazil over the past decade. “People have started searching for their origins, discovering themselves beyond a baptism, beyond an identity that was often imposed on them or kept within narrow boundaries,” says Lancellotti. The album becomes a space for reconnecting with Afro-Brazilian traditions and cultural expressions shaped by spirituality and the worship of the orixás, themes immortalized by Os Tincoãs, pioneers of this musical territory more than six decades ago.
You will have the chance to see the show yourself as they tour Europe in November.
