Papaya Republik – Hola Soledad

By 02 May, 2012

Papaya Republik are one of the more interesting recent bands to come out of Colombia. On their last full length Papaya Republik Vol. 1 they successfully fused electronica, cumbia and funk with many sounds found on the Colombian coast, constantly confounding with their genre-less approach to music making. The sounds of Cuba are particularly popular in Colombia, and Papaya Republik’s interpretation of “Hola Soledad”, a song written by Palito Ortega but made famous by Rolando Laserie, is a great example of a Cuban bolero given a modern, Colombian feel.
