New EP and Video from Argentina’s Los Labios
11 June, 2013Tongues seem firmly in cheeks in the new video from Argentina’s Los Labios. Taken from the Luz y Fuerza EP (which is available for free download from loslabios.com.ar) the track takes cumbia down a kitschy, sexy route.
For anyone used to the normal hard-hitting digital cumbia from Argentina, expect something very different from Los Labios. Yet while ostensibly being a pop song, “Hoy Descubri” is also full of humour, with Los Labios’ singer Lulu Jankilevich singing about her dream of finding a muscular man. With this playful critique of the things men do to look good and the superficial things that women find attractive, you would really have to put the music of Los Labios alongside their Brazilian coutnerparts Catarina Dee Jah and Gaby Amarantos, two artists who are firmly showing that strong women often make the best (and most biting) pop music.
