Axel Krygier joins Luisa Maita among October’s world music charts

The new release by Axel Krygier (Pesebre – read our review HERE) has gone straight into the World Music Charts Europe, placing at 4. These charts are generally thought of as one of the most reliable for World Music, relying on radio play figures over a large variety of stations. You can see the charts in full HERE. It joins Luisa Maita‘s Lero-Lero in the top twenty, where it has been for three months.It represents a great month for Crammed Discs and Cumbancha Records, who released Pesebre and Lero-Lero respectively. In the Womex Label Award Cumbancha placed 2nd and Crammed 11th. You can see the full awards HERE. Cumbancha were rewarded for the Luisa Maita album, as well as Sarazino‘s Ya Foy!.

Also notable, from a South American perspective are:

  • 4th: Soundway – who released the magnificent Palenque Palenque: Champeta Criolla & Afro Roots in Colombia compilation
  • 5th: Naive – who released the El Gaucho soundtrack by Christoph Müller & Edouardo Makaroff, members of the illustrious Bajofondo Tango Club
  • 6th: Outhere – whose Comfusoes1, From Angola to Brasil saw Brazilian producers remix a selection of top, quality Angolan tracks from the 60s and 70s
  • 10th: Six Degrees – home of CeU‘s Vagarosa, one of the best Brazilian albums of the past twenty years, period
