Bomba Estereo soon to be headlining across the US
20 July, 2010This Thursday Bomba Estéreo will launch a 10-date headlining tour beginning at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. Here is what Spin had to say about their performance at Bonnaroo:
“Saumet… played the slinky tomboy, striking action poses, trilling speedy raps,
and dropping into a hand-on-hip purr. Her precocious antics spurred the crowd to
triple in size after only a half-dozen songs.”
Also, Bomba’s bassist/producer/founder Simon Mejia has been selected along with DJ Rupture and Ben Frost as finalists for a prestigious year-long mentorship program with the renowned producer Brian Eno. The Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative pairs up established masters of fields including music, film, and theater with up-and-coming artists for a year-long creative collaboration.
“It’s an honor to be selected as a finalist for the Rolex mentorship, it was one of the happiest moments of my life when I was informed,” Mejia says. “Working with Brian Eno would definitely take my music to the real psychedelic synthesizer stage. ‘Music For Airports’ has been a favorite album of mine for as long as I can remember.”
