Download the new Tulipa album for free (oh, and by the way, it could be album of the year!)

By 09 August, 2012

It seems that Tulipa Ruiz’s first album Efêmera, which was one of our albums of 2010, was really just a case of the São Paulo singer finding her voice, for her new album Tudo Tanto takes things up a notch. And it’s currently available to download for free. I would get myself a copy if I was you.

The new album features 11 tracks and appearances from a host of Sao Paulo’s best musicians, including Criolo (who lends his whisper to “Víbora”), a special guest appearance from Lulu Santos on “Dois Cafés”, all the members of São Paulo Underground on “Cada Voz” for a suitable experimental jazz arrangement, her father Luiz Chagas on guitar and brother Gustavo Ruiz on guitar and production duties throughout, as well as a long list of great names including Dudu Tsuda, Kassin, Rafael Castro, Caio Lopes and Daniel Ganjaman.

Tudo Tanto has a bigger sound than Efêmera, often evoking the glam pop of Cidadão Instigado and veering between the kitsch of Alípio Martins and something altogether more experimental. In particular, Tulipa’s voice has become a serious weapon. We’ll be reviewing the album soon, so will go on rhapsodising about the release then. But for now, just download the damn thing…
