Fiebre Tropical Returns To Barranquilla

By 28 August, 2014

Fresh from the success of the first ever edition, comes Fiebre Tropical Vol. 2, an event that promises to be bigger and better than the last. Taking place on Friday 29th August at Barranquilla’s legendary Hotel El Prado, this tropical party promises to be an absolute stormer with live music from Bogotá’s Frente Cumbiero and DJs including Cesar Paez (Emisora Atlántico), Luis “Music Man” Altamiranda and Tete Sarmiento. If you’re in Colombia this is a party you can’t miss!

Hotel El Prado’s history goes back to the 1940s when it was home to the legendary Emisora Atlántico Jazz Band, featuring the talents of Pacho Galan, at a time when jazz, swing, bolero and pasodoble were heavy in the repertoire but Colombian styles like cumbia and fandango were starting to creep in. On Sunday afternoons they even hosted empanadas bailables for the youth of the day, where swing and rock ‘n’ roll took over the setlist. In the 1950s it was the Hotel El Prado where Cab Calloway performed his famous scat routine during carnival, and it has been at this location ever since that carnival has routinely held some of its most prestigious parties. In short, it’s hard to think of a better location for the second Fiebre Tropical.
