London’s East End Film Festival Returns With A Latin Twist

By 18 June, 2013

This month, the annual multi-platform East End Film Festival (EEFF) will return for its fourteenth year in the capital, with more than seventy feature films set to be screened at various venues in London’s East End over a two-week programme.

This year’s event will have a distinctly Latin flavour, with Argentine director Armando Bo – winner of last year’s EEFF Best Film Award for his tragic debut feature El Último Elvis (read our review here) – set to return as this year’s Director in Residence for the festival’s national focus on Argentina.

A host of UK premières from up-and-coming Argentine directors will feature from the 25 June until the 10 July, with Rich Mix in Shoreditch screening Alejandro Fidel’s mystical debut The Wild Ones (29 Jun), Jázmin López’s mysterious first feature film Leones (04 Jul) and Mariano Llinás’s unconventional 2008 thriller Extraordinary Stories (06 Jul).

The Barbican Cinema will also host an Argentine Cinema Panel on the 27 June, with directors Bo and Fidel discussing the importance of Argentine cinema on the world stage before the London Première of Matias Pineiro’s reinvention of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Viola (read our review here).

The festival will also feature a wide-range of films from across the continent, with Peruvian director Adrian Saba’s post-apocalyptic love story The Cleaner (05 Jul) and Brazilian director Francisco Garcia’s moody debut Colours (03 Jul) both featuring at Rich Mix.

Last but not least, Davi de Oliveira Pinheiro’s Brazilian horror/spaghetti Western Beyond the Grave will be showing at Dalston’s Rio Cinema on the 5 July, while Sebastian Hoffman’s disturbing Mexican debut Halley will première at Whitechapel’s Genesis Cinema (09 Jul).
