Killer Afrobeat from Belo Horizonte’s ICONILI
17 July, 2012Here’s a brand new track from Brazil’s Iconili. Hailing from Belo Horizonte, their instrumental sound contains elements of jazz, rock, traditional Brazilian styles and the African influences which are clear on “O Rei de Tupanga”, a scorching number with definite nods to Nigerian greats such as Tony Allen and Ebo Taylor. It’s a sound that brings to mind Bixiga 70, one of the revelations of last year. Hopefully, more of the same is on it’s way.
