New Music: ‘Baby Yankee’ Remix by Riobamba & Uproot Andy

By 21 February, 2018

If there is one thing to be said about Riobamba, the NYC-based DJ whose real name is Sara Skolnick, it’s that she’s a huge fan of reggaeton and perreo. It’s evident each time she plays out.

Recently signed to the Discwoman DJ roster, she’s teamed up with our good friend Uproot Andy to bring us a new show on Red Bull radio specializing in, you guessed it, the best of Urbano: reggeaton, dembow, old school classics and new faves, such as Latin trap.

The new monthly show, Bien Buena, with the slogan “préndelo pero apréndelo,” kicked off with a remix of Daddy Yankee’s earliest recordings on Remezcla:

“The one-shot recording is from DJ Playero’s Playero 37, the quintessential mixtape many consider the starting point of reggaeton. ‘Baby Yankee’ mutates just like the genre has throughout its history, from its dancehall origins to an avant-garde production style. The pair threads these sounds together without breaking a sweat, and they let Yankee’s untamed rap loose, dangerously setting off sparks with a blast of high-octane dance floor fuel.”

Listen to the track below and New Yorkers can celebrate with the pair in person at Brooklyn’s Lovers Rock tonight, Wednesday, the 21st of Feb.
