WIN Dona Onete ‘Banzeiro’ Vinyl

By 02 June, 2017

Dona Onete may be 77 years old (and she’ll actually be 78 in a couple of weeks!) but she’s showing no signs of slowing down. If anything, age is only making her more vivacious, as anyone who has heard her latest album Banzeiro can no doubt attest.

On the album, Dona Onete’s second release after releasing her debut Feitiço Caboclo in 2012, the singer unleashes the bangue rhythm, an exhilarating breakneck genre designed to make you dance. Alongside that we hear the carimbós and boleros that we heard on her debut, all of which are genres typical to the Amazonian region of Brazil where Onete hails.

Banzeiro has been released by Mais Um Discos and features Onete singing about issues such as homophobia, love and the people and places of the Amazon. She is joined by a crack band of percussionists, guitarists and horn players for an album that defies her lofty years.

We have three copies of Banzeiro to give away on vinyl. To be in with a chance of winning a copy enter our competition HERE.

Read our recent interview with Dona Onete here. Also, Onete will be performing in London at Nell’s Jazz and Blues Club on Friday 14th July.
