First Taster from Sonidos Raíces del Perú is El Sueño de la Casa Propia’s Intoxicating Take on Peruvian Folk Music

By 07 June, 2016

On Friday June 17th we will release our latest compilation, Sonidos Raíces del Perú, a kaleidoscopic album showcasing some of the finest new music producers in Latin America through the lens of Peruvian folk music.

The starting point for the compilation was the incredible collection of field recordings made by nomadic French film-maker Vincent Moon during a trip to Peru in 2013. We then asked many of our favourite Latin American producers to create original tracks using samples from the collection. The result is an intoxicating listen taking in styles such as avant-garde electronica, dub, electro-pop, Andean beat, neo-folk and many other progressive adaptations of Peruvian folk music and customs.

Artists featured on the compilation include El Remolón (Argentina), Psilosamples (Brazil), El Sueño de la Casa Propia (Chile), Quixosis (Ecuador), Pigmalião (Brazil), Caribombo (Venezuela), Panchasila (Argentina), Dolli (Venezuela), NILLO (Costa Rica) & Sentidor (Brazil), Señor Griff (UK) and Ed Bird (Peru). The artwork was created by Brazilian illustrator Edson Ikê.

Sonidos Raíces del Perú will be released on Friday June 17th 2016. The album can be pre-ordered via Bandcamp.

Listen to the opening track, “La Familia Choquihuillca” by the hugely influential Chilean producer El Sueño de la Casa Propia below. This track features samples of three songs performed by Jorge Choquihuillca and his family, all of whom are masters of Andean folk music, especially the musical styles of Peruvian harp, bandurria and orquestín.
