Movimientos’ ‘Sanctuary Series’ Is Charting A Path Across Latin America

By 04 May, 2020

With no events to give London its regular dose of tropical medicine, UK-based promoters/label/cultural hub Movimientos have turned to mixtapes as a way of offering ‘sanctuary’ from this current sh*tstorm. So far, they’re six mixes in – so plenty to catch up on – and have been charting a path across Latin America and its diaspora with an eclectic but on-point selection of tunes.

The latest mix to drop is from Argentina’s Mati Zundel under his Lagartijeando moniker, offering up a special ‘Huaynos del Ayer’ mix full of Andean rhythms and huayno from Peru and Bolivia.

Earlier mixes include a selection of fiery dance floor beats, with a strong Afro-house vibe from Venezuela’s Caribombo, a worldly selection of electronic productions from Chilean DJ Raff (including a few exclusives) and a similarly-hypnotic, though gentler, pick of electronica from Argentina’s Kaleema:

Other mixes come from Movimientos main man DJ Cal Jader and one of the hottest new tropical DJs in London, Poly Ritmo, who offers up a taste of carnival, fresh from her own recent trip to Brazil:

And if you’re wondering who has done the lovely collages for all these mixes: that’d be Janiru.
