Free Download (for a limited time): New track from Dengue Dengue Dengue!

By 01 March, 2014

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… the mighty Dengue Dengue Dengue were born. Well, actually, it was in Lima in 2010, but in that short time the limeño duo (Felipe Salmon and Rafael Pereira) have established themselves as probably the finest purveyors of digital dub-cumbia around, a sound that is equal parts psychedelic and psychotic, with bass that goes deeper than any black hole. So it’s an exciting moment when they’ve got a new tune out.

Paying tribute to the galaxy’s most heroic droid, ‘R2’ (or Arturito to give him his popular South American moniker) is available as a free download on Dengue Dengue Dengue’s Soundcloud page. It’s a different direction for DDD, gone is that diabolical bass and the robotic beeps and whirls which characterise the band’s sound, and which are actually closer in style to R2D2’s electronic warblings than anything in the percussive fury on show here. As it’s only available for a limited time, you’d best download ‘R2’ right now so that its force will be with you… always. (Sorry.)

This is not the first time Star Wars and cumbia have crossed lightsaber beams. Check out this evil empire groove from Chile’s La Cumbia de Patricio Cobarde. Dengue Dengue Dengue, meanwhile, are always out and about, with full details of upcoming gigs, releases and everything else on their official website.
